Development of the bookmark idea
We discussed about the form of card again and we found that bookmarks could actually be more useful for visitors. Plus, bookmarks are easier to keep. We soon decided to change the cards into bookmarks.
Tutorial with Alaistair
In the workshop, we told our idea to Alaistair and he gave us a quite positive feedback. He shared us with his feelings about the paper pressing. He imagined it to be a British gentleman, who gently gets the paper into the machine and adds his own value onto the visit. The scenario also got me. I suggested that we could extend this classic, old-fashioned style to our whole design.
He found the idea of adding visitors' own value to the visit by making the pressing pattern himself was also quite smart. Plus, he appreciated the way of writing the next stage visit time on the bookmark, which shaped a loop, calling visitors to come back for a next visit.
The package of the bookmarks
We then discussed about how would the bookmarks be packaged when they were given to the visitors at the entrance. I got the idea of making an envelope for the bookmarks and the map of the garden is on the inside face of the envelope. However, Jordy wanted the design in a money-saving way and got an idea of an integrated bookmark series as a leaflet. The visitor could simply flip the bookmark off to use it. If he does not want to use, this is also an integrated booklet and he can take it with him. While I believed that we should think about the total experience of the visitor. We used a way of pressing bookmarks, which is quite old-fashioned. I insisted that the design should not be too modern to ruin the coherent experience.
Finally, we came up with the idea of using a ring on the corner of the bookmarks. Visitors can also pull apart it to add more bookmarks. It makes good use of the ring, and is a good balance of both money-saving and old fashion.

The basic concept of the bookmarks
We came up with the idea that we could print coloured pattern on the back of the bookmark so that visitors could see the shape through the front in the sunlight. Even they did not achieve the pressing thing, they could still have something to take with them.

Initial prototype making
About how to realise the technical part of pressing bookmarks on the standings, Jordy showed confidence about this part. He raised up a possible way of using springs and two layers of templates to make a pressing machine. We drew the idea out and agreed on the approach.
We made a paper prototype to show our idea to others.
